The first part describes the condition of the book, the second indicates the condition of the dust jacket if there is one. Brand New (BN): Used only when the book has been recently purchased, handled very little, and not read. Like New (LN): Used when the book is in the same immaculate condition in which it was published. There will be no defects, no missing pages, no library stamps, etc. The dust jacket (if it was issued with one) will be prefect, without any tears. Very Good (VG): Approaches the condition of Like New, but without being crisp. May show small signs of wear, but there will be no defects, tears or excess wear. If the jacket has a small tear or other defect, or looks worn, it will be noted. Good (G): Describes the average used and worn book that has all pages present. Any defects will be noted.
